چکیده
Two innovative optical fiber cable layouts designed to improve strain measurement accuracy for Brillouin Optical Time Domain Analysis (BOTDA) sensors through improved transfer efficiency are presented and discussed. Swept Wavelength Interferometry (SWI) is used experimentally evaluate their performance alongside analytical models numerical simulation Finite Element Method (FEM). The results show good agreement between the different methods that second sensing design presents features minimize mismatch measured actual strain. Finally, response of both temperature cables this evaluated, showing difference in reliable enough allow compensation.

Fast Brillouin Optical Time Domain Analysis for dynamic sensing.
A new technique for the fast implementation of Brillouin Optical Time Domain Analysis (BOTDA) is proposed and demonstrated, carrying the classical BOTDA method to the dynamic sensing domain. By using a digital signal generator which enables fast switching among 100 scanning frequencies, we demonstrate a truly distributed and dynamic measurement of a 100 m long fiber with a sampling rate of ~10 ...

On-site distributed strain measurements using an original Brillouin analyser were performed on cables using standard tensile test bench and on critical installations in the Swiss telecom network.
متن کاملNon-Local Effects in Brillouin Optical Time-Domain Analysis Sensors
Brillouin optical time-domain analysis (BOTDA) sensors have great potential to provide distributed measurements of temperature and strain over large structures with high spatial resolution and measurement precision. However, their performance ultimately depends on the amount of probe and pump pulse power that can be injected into the sensing fiber, which determines the signal-to-noise ratio of ...
متن کاملExtending the sensing range of Brillouin optical time-domain analysis up to 325 km combining four optical repeaters
A novel scheme is proposed to extend the sensing range of Brillouin optical time-domain analyzers (BOTDA). Specially-designed erbium doped fiber amplifier (EDFA) repeaters are located every 65km fiber along the sensing cable to achieve a total sensing length of 325km, corresponding to a 650km loop. At the end of the sensing fibre, we experimentally demonstrated a measurement repeatability of 2°...
متن کاملSynthetic Spectrum Approach for Brillouin Optical Time-Domain Reflectometry
We propose a novel method to improve the spatial resolution of Brillouin optical time-domain reflectometry (BOTDR), referred to as synthetic BOTDR (S-BOTDR), and experimentally verify the resolution improvements. Due to the uncertainty relation between position and frequency, the spatial resolution of a conventional BOTDR system has been limited to about one meter. In S-BOTDR, a synthetic spect...
